Regardless of where you stand on environmental issues, we can all probably agree on one thing: We can do better when it comes to taking care of our planet. Its clear that changes in manufacturing of vehicle and standards set to reduced emissions, have had a positive impact. Its been a good start over what was going on just a few decades ago. But what can we do at the grass root level as a small business in a service industry that isn’t exactly known for being clean? We can also evolve and take advantage of new technologies and best practices. We make choices every day to set a green example, not just for our industry, but for businesses in general. Here are some of the ways that we’re making a difference, every day.

How can we help keep your vehicle green and clean as possible?

Our approach to vehicle maintenance means that our customers drive cleaner cars. Regular maintenance reduces harmful leaks, minimizes your pollution output, and ensures your achieving optimum fuel economy. Even wearable items like tires, brakes, suspension and driveline last longer, which reduces waste. Plus, because regular maintenance is cheaper in the long term than paying for major repairs, being green saves you money.

Our Recycling Program

Despite all of the parts and materials we purchase every year, we generate very little waste. Over 90% of our waste is diverted from landfills! We recycle all of our:

Waste fluids like oil and antifreeze.
Oil and transmission filters.
Plastic fluid bottles and containers.
Aerosol cans.
Paper and cardboard.
Packing Foam.
Plastic bags.
Tires and wheels.
Scrap metal.
Automotive electronics and batteries.

Making smarter choices in purchasing.

Several years ago, we saw a big change in our waste productions from one simple change. A new product, and a new way to buy oils and automotive fluids was introduced, called an EcoBox. Think of it as a larger version of wine in a box. These boxes hold 6 gallons (22.7 litres) of oil in fully recyclable box form. When the box is empty the plastic bag liner is removed and the cardboard box goes off to be recycled like any other box. The plastic liner when compacted is smaller in size then a traditional 1 litre oil bottle and it also can be recycled. This one change in purchasing our oils and fluids, saw us go from producing 2-4 large recycling bags of empty containers a week, to our new average of 1 bag every couple of months.

Every year, thousands of pounds of wheel weights fall off vehicles or end up in landfills when tires are replaced. Most wheel weights are made of lead, which is hazardous to our health. To combat this, we collect and send all weights removed from old tires to a scrap metal recycler. When we apply new weights when completing a balancing service, we use the most environmentally friendly wheel weights available. The weights we use are 100% lead free, and plastic coated with a hardened steel hook that won’t come loose. The plastic coating ensures that they will not corrode or tarnish the face of your wheels. This means that not only are they good for our planet, but they’re good for your vehicle as well.
